Small Towns draft position statement after Wittstock

Angus Fowler arranged for a small meeting in Potsdam in April to discuss the Declaration of Wittstock with the Chamber of Architects. This will be submitted to Brandenburg State spatial planners later in 2009.

This “New Wittstock Declaration” is being prepared as a result of the ECOVAST international specialist conference on “Perspectives for Small Towns in the Countryside” in Wittstock/Brandenburg/ Germany in September 2008. The Wittstock Chamber of Architects was a partner in the Conference.
Building up on the 1998 “Wittstock Declaration” of the Brandenburg Chamber of Architects, the new declaration profits from the rich experience of the international organization ECOVAST - European Council for the Village and Small Town - and its German Section as well as from contributions from the academic world and from state and local politics.

There was much discussion at the 2008 Conference, and the record of the points made has been used to creat a DRAFT ECOVAST POSITION STATEMENT - attached here.

Your comments are welcome.

In August 2009 the Brandenburg Chamber of Architects has published the New Wittstock Declaration in German and English (attached below on 26 August) and it has been debated with representatives of several politacal parties in the period before the 2009 Elections in Gemany.
